Square D, a brand of Schneider Electric
The origin of the Square D name is legendary. In 1915, the Detroit Fuse and Manufacturing Company introduced a stamped steel version of its enclosed safety switch. Embossed on the switch cover was a square with a capital 'D' for Detroit. The safety switch became so popular that customers requested the 'Square D' safety switch. Two years later, the company, capitalizing on the market demand for this product, changed its name to Square D Company. Today, the Square D brand name remains one of the few created by its customers. In 1991, Schneider Electric acquired Square D Company and added one of the most highly recognized and well-respected brands in the electrical industry to its portfolio.
Square D pioneered the development of the first remotely operated circuit breaker for lighting control in 1985. Over the years, the Square D Powerlink range name has become synonymous with robust, reliable lighting control for large open spaces such as those found in retail spaces, public building, industrials, and outdoor venues. Today’s Powerlink system is an advanced control center which provides the ability to control and monitor individual branch circuits from the convenience of a standard web browser or virtually any building control system.
In 2006 Schneider Electric announced the launch of its advanced lighting control line under the Square D Clipsal brand name. Products include dimmers, relays, and input devices such as key pads, motion sensors, and touch screens crafted in sleek European styling. Clipsal lighting controls are used in some of the most prestigious commercial applications around the world including the Sydney Opera House in Australia and the Imperial War Museum in the United Kingdom. These products are ideal for providing the right control to achieve both today’s building energy codes requirements and desired creative scenes. Company Detail
