Tony Marano Named President and CEO of Encelium Technologies

Company Establishes New Headquarters in Teaneck, NJ

Tony Marano, of Wayne, NJ has been named president and chief executive officer of Encelium Technologies, a technology development company specializing in integrated lighting control systems for commercial buildings. Prior to joining Encelium, Marano was the chief executive officer of the Americas for Cushman & Wakefield in New York.

With operations in the U.S., Canada and Europe, Encelium recently established its new headquarters in Teaneck, N.J. The company’s hallmark is its state-of-the-art product, the Energy Control System (ECS), which uses the collaborative power of addressable networking technology in conjunction with advanced control hardware and software. This intelligent lighting control system is designed to maximize energy savings and provide an attractive return on investment in both new and retrofitted buildings.

“Encelium is at the forefront of meeting today’s energy challenges, and I am thrilled to be leading this company’s efforts,” said Marano, who possesses more than 25 years of continued experience in the real estate and technologies industries. “Although lighting represents one of the largest energy loads in commercial buildings, it’s been neglected as a means of helping reduce energy costs. Encelium provides property owners and managers with the resources to make viable changes that ultimately conserve energy.”

Throughout his distinguished career, Marano has held top leadership positions. Prior to his role as CEO of Cushman & Wakefield, Marano served as the company’s global chief operating officer. In addition, he was the vice president of the business services division at Lucent Technologies as well as the vice president of global real estate for Lucent after its spinoff from AT&T. Prior to that, he served as the vice president of global real estate for AT&T, where he was responsible for the management of AT&T’s 160 million-square-foot worldwide portfolio.

Respected for his contributions to business and real estate over the years, Marano was named the 1999 “Corporate Real Estate Executive of the Year” by Commercial Property News. He has been very active with real estate organizations, including the International Development Research Council (IDRC), now known as CoreNet. He received his B.A. from Rutgers University and his M.B.A. from Fairleigh Dickinson University. In addition, he has attended Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business and the London School of Economics.

How Encelium’s State-of-the-Art System Works
Stand-alone lighting components have been around for years. What’s new is how Encelium’s ECS utilizes a universal I/O (input/output) module to connect to standard lighting components such as low-voltage non-dimming ballasts, occupancy sensors or photosensors to give you unprecedented digital control. One component of the system enables each person in a commercial building to control their own workspace light levels from their desktop computer. In addition to this personal control, the integrated system allows facility managers to make full use of a number of other energy management strategies such as daylight harvesting, occupancy control, smart-time scheduling, task tuning and variable load shedding.

“With ECS, property owners can reduce their lighting-related energy costs by 50 percent to 75 percent and play a critical role in creating a sustainable future,” noted Marano. “It’s an ideal solution for them.”

Terry Mocherniak and Marc Hoffknecht founded Encelium in 2001. Mocherniak now serves as the company’s chief operating officer, and Hoffknecht is the chief technology officer. In 2008, Encelium received the Frost & Sullivan Emerging Company of the Year Award in the Green Lighting Controls Market in North America. This recognition is based on the company’s outstanding management, exceptional customer service, and its ability to combine technology and successful strategic initiatives.

Since Encelium’s founding, its ECS has been installed at more than 12 million square feet or 150 projects across North America and Europe. Sites include Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, Arizona; the Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; the Rogers Centre, a world class sports and entertainment complex, in Toronto, Canada; and Toronto General Hospital, also in Toronto.
