Eddie Johnson Joins Encelium Technologies as VP of Sales

Lighting Control Industry Veteran Brings Vast Experience to Teaneck, N.J.-Based
Technology Development Firm Specializing in “Green” Lighting

Eddie Johnson has joined Encelium Technologies, as vice president of sales. Encelium is a technology development firm specializing in state-of-the-art, integrated lighting control systems for commercial buildings. In this new role, Johnson, who is based out of the Teaneck, N.J. headquarters, will manage the company’s direct and indirect global sales channels.

Encelium’s hallmark is its product, the Energy Control System™ (ECS), which is designed to reduce lighting-related costs by 50 to 75 percent for both new construction and retrofitted buildings. ECS is the only lighting control system on the market that integrates and deploys six energy management strategies on a facility-wide basis, giving property owners and managers unprecedented digital control. Strategies include personal control, occupancy control, daylight harvesting, smart-time scheduling, task tuning and variable load shedding. Encelium established its new headquarters in Teaneck in January of 2009 and is poised for significant growth due to its innovative technologies in environmental responsibility.

“Eddie’s in-depth understanding of the lighting technology industry, impressive leadership skills, and forward thinking will quickly establish him as a key contributor to our team,” said Tony Marano, president and chief executive officer of Encelium, which was founded in 2001. “He brings vast work experience with companies based in Europe, where energy conservation and management in commercial buildings is already the standard. We are thrilled to welcome him onboard.”

During the past 25 years, Johnson has held a number of high-level positions in the fields of electrical distribution, lighting manufacturing and lighting controls. Most recently, he headed up the intelligent lighting systems unit of Tyco Electronics, a Fortune 500 company. Prior to that, Johnson served as president and chief executive officer of Telemics, Inc., a U.S.-based, start-up enterprise, which Tyco Electronics acquired, that developed and sold wireless-based outdoor lighting control and monitoring systems for the utility and municipality markets.

In addition, he was the managing director of ECS Lighting Control Ltd., the United Kingdom's leading office lighting controls manufacturer. At ECS Lighting Control Ltd., Johnson successfully led the company's efforts in introducing and commercializing a complex, networked lighting control system. This product was considered ground-breaking at the time of its inception.

Johnson graduated with honors from the University of Southampton with a B.S. in electrical engineering and received his M.B.A. from the London Business School.“Joining Encelium at a time when ‘green’ building and energy efficiency in the U.S.’s commercial space has moved to center stage is an exciting opportunity for me,” commented Johnson. “Lighting is always identified as one of the major energy uses within a facility. I look forward to working with each of our clients on devising a strategy that provides tremendous operating cost and energy savings while enabling them to demonstrate superior environmental responsibility.”

Installing ECS enhances a building’s ability to achieve U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) certification by contributing between 12 and 22 points. It contributes in four out of six categories including sustainable sites, energy, indoor environmental quality and innovation in design. ECS also can facilitate a building’s compliance with ASHRAE 90.1, EPAct, Title 24 of the California Code of Regulations, and various utility rebate programs.

Since its founding, Encelium has installed its ECS in more than 14 million square feet of commercial space - approximately 150 projects - across Europe and North America. Projects have included office and mixed-use buildings, industrial space, parking garages, entertainment complexes, colleges and 50 U.S. Postal Offices.
