Z-MAX™ Lighting Control Relay Systems Comply with Latest State Energy Control Mandates, Offer Extended Service Life
LITTLE NECK, NEW YORK - Leviton’s new line of Z-MAX™ lighting control relay systems combine superior lighting energy management features with extended service life. The new family of relays offers commercial facilities an effective solution for complying with the U.S. Department of Energy’s ASHRAE 90.1-1999 standard, requiring that timed-scheduling systems or occupancy sensors be used to reduce lighting usage in buildings of 5,000 square feet or larger.
Z-MAX’s exclusive circuitry switches full capacity loads at the zero crossing point, affording true air-gap switching without current leakage. This unique circuitry eliminates arc shower pitting at the contacts, a particular problem when switching modern electronic ballasts, extending the electrical life of the relay to 10,000,000 switching cycles. Since UL standards require that relays functioning under continuous duty at full load have an electrical life of 6,000 switching cycles, the performance life of Z-MAX relays far exceeds the standard set by UL, and provide years of trouble-free operation.
The Z-MAX Relay System Control Modules feature a built-in astronomical time clock (ATC) that is California CEC Title 24 compliant. The built-in ATC allows the system’s location to be easily programmed to respond to time of day settings or a time offset from either sunrise or sunset, eliminating the need for expensive photocells. It also adjusts for daylight savings time and leap year conditions.
Z-MAX relay systems offer easy keypad programming with bright LCD panels and on-screen instructions that are easy to follow. Z-MAX relay cabinets offer generous wiring space and easy-to-wire terminals. Modular relay cards are available with a single circuit on each card for easy swap-out to simplify maintenance. Z-Max Relays are available in 8 Cabinet, 24 Cabinet and 48 Cabinet models, each capable of accepting input from momentary, maintained or toggle switches, as well as occupancy and optical sensors.
Networked Z-MAX versions enable multiple relay panels to seamlessly share lighting control information with Leviton’s D4200 and D8000 Architectural Lighting Controls, a-2000 Modular Dimming Cabinets, I Series e Dimming Racks and any DMX Dimming Rack. They also take advantage of Leviton’s Windows â based Lumagraphics â Graphical User Interface (GUI) lighting control software, enabling point-and-click control over an entire facility. The line of Z-MAX Relays is part of Leviton’s integrated energy management control offering that includes Leviton occupancy sensors, timers, dimmers and photocells, as well as Centura Daylight Harvesting System and Architectural Lighting Control Systems for building-wide control.
