Leviton's Mark Fogel Named Business Leader of the Year by SHRM
Leviton, North America’s leading electrical and electronic wiring device manufacturer, was in good company this year at the Society for Human Resource Management’s (SHRM) Annual Conference in Tampa. Leviton Vice President Mark Fogel was named by the Society as Human Capital Business Leader of the Year alongside award recipients from blue-chip giants, IBM and Coca-Cola, and Mexico City-based El Puerto de Liverpool, S.A.B. de C.V., Mexico’s largest department store retailer.
Fogel was honored by SHRM for his commitment to making Leviton’s human resource (HR) department a strategic partner in achieving the company’s goals. During his tenure at Leviton, he has earned a reputation as a “get it done” executive who has reengineered the HR department from an administrative body to a strategic business partner.
A key architect behind positioning Leviton’s Human Resource team as a strategic partner in achieving corporate goals, Fogel has spearheaded programs to reengineer an objectives-based evaluation process for senior managers and a performance appraisal process for all employees. Both programs seek to align individual contributions to corporate growth objectives. In commenting on his department’s contribution, Fogel noted, “When the opportunity presents itself, you have to grab it. We came out of the starting gate fast, and the most critical part of the change was that HR grew along with the company as a key strategic partner.”
Three other award winners shared the limelight with Leviton at the awards ceremony. IBM received the Innovative Business Solution Award for its “Blue Opportunities, an Innovative Approach to Career Development,” a program that demonstrates the bottom-line value of the company’s people strategies. Coca-Cola’s “Manifesto for Growth” earned it the Strategic HR Leadership Award. This award is presented to a corporate HR Department for its role in driving performance by leveraging human capital. Liverpool was presented the Competitive Workforce Award for its “Virtual University,” a high quality training program developed for its 33,000 employees.
“We applaud the exceptional work and professionalism of these leadership awards winners,” said SHRM’s President and CEO, Susan R. Meisinger. “Their effective strategies and accomplishments illustrate the significant role human resource professionals play in organizational success in a competitive global market.”
SHRM is the world’s largest association devoted to human resource management. Now in its second year, the Human Capital Leadership Awards recognize human resource leaders who advance the profession and serve as effective partners in executing organizational strategies that directly impact corporate performance and prominence.
