Congress Extends Commercial Buildings Deduction to December 31, 2008
The National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) praised the passage of the “Tax Relief and Health Care Act of 2006” (H.R. 6111) in the final hours of the lame duck session of the 109th Congress. The Act includes over three dozen extensions of existing tax provisions, many of which had expired at the end of 2005, and would be retroactively extended. President Bush signed the bill into law in late December.
Of significant interest, the Commercial Buildings Deduction for energy efficient commercial buildings has been extended for an additional year to December 31, 2008. This extension will assist in planning for 2007 projects while NEMA works for a longer extension in the 110th Congress.
