Lighting Controls Association Adds EE202: Lighting & LEED-NC v.2.2 to Its Education Express Program

The Lighting Controls Association (LCA) has announced the availability of EE202: Lighting & LEED-NC v.2.2, a new course added to its popular Education Express program. Residing at the Association’s website www.aboutlightingcontrols.org, Education Express provides in-depth education about lighting controls and controllable ballast technology, application, system design and commissioning, as well as meta-issues such as LEED, energy codes and other trends.

LEED is the U.S. Green Building Council’s rating system, the most popular metric for rating the sustainability of construction and renovation projects. LEED-NC v.2.2 is the latest version of the LEED system for new construction.

EE202: Lighting & LEED-NC v.2.2, authored by lighting industry educator and journalist Craig DiLouie, provides guidance about maximizing LEED points using the lighting aspects of LEED-NC. Consisting of nearly 100 pages of text and graphics broken into five learning modules, the course provides requirements and guidance on strategies for light pollution reduction, daylight and views, controllability of lighting systems, and complying with/exceeding Standard 90.1-2004.

At the conclusion of the course, an optional online comprehension test is available, with automatic grading; a passing grade enables the student to claim education credit. EE202: Lighting & LEED-NC v.2.2 is accredited/registered with the National Council on Quality in the Lighting Professions (NCQLP), which recognizes 8.0 LEUs towards maintenance of Lighting Certified (LC) certification; the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE), which recognizes 0.8 CEUs towards maintenance of its Certified Lighting Efficiency Professional (CLEP) certification; and the interNational Association of Lighting Management Companies (NALMCO), which recognizes 15 Education Points towards maintenance of its Certified Lighting Management Consultant (CLMC) certification.

Since its launch in June 2006, Education Express has served nearly 3,000 students, who have benefited from more than 7,500 completions of learning modules and nearly 3,000 comprehension tests taken online, enabling them to earn education credit.

The Lighting Controls Association, headquartered at the NEMA headquarters in Rosslyn, VA, was founded to provide education about lighting energy management and control technology via its web site, which contains Education Express, white papers, articles, research, products, projects and a public forum. Lighting Controls Association members include noted leaders in the manufacture of advanced controls and dimming ballasts: Advance Transformer, DELTA Controls, HUNT Dimming, Leviton, Lightolier Controls, Lithonia Controls, Lutron Electronics, OSRAM SYLVANIA, PCI, Square D, Tridonic, Universal Lighting Technologies and Watt Stopper/Legrand.
