Schneider Electric Named Primary Supplier of Electrical Products for the New American Home® 2008
Latest electrical, lighting technologies on display at International Builders Show® home
Schneider Electric announced today it has been named primary supplier of electrical products for The New American Home® 2008, being built in Orlando, Fla., in conjunction with the 64th annual International Builders Show®, set for Feb. 13 through 16, 2008, at the Orange County Convention Center. Schneider Electric, best known for its Square D® brand of residential electrical distribution products and wholly owned subsidiary Juno Lighting, Inc., will supply load centers, air conditioning disconnects, structured wiring, a Square D Clipsal® home lighting control system and Juno® recessed lighting and lighting fixtures.
“For 25 years, The New American Home has offered International Builders Show attendees a glimpse into the future of home building, and this year is no different,” said Eric Rall, Manager, Market Segment. “Schneider Electric will demonstrate that the future of electrical distribution, control systems and lighting products is available today, providing benefits like energy savings, convenience, aesthetics and the ability to set lighting scenes quickly and easily. Essentially, these solutions allow home builders to facilitate smarter use of electricity in a home.”
Among the solutions installed in The New American Home is the Square D Intelligent Load Center™, jointly developed and marketed by Schneider Electric and Kohler Power Systems. It combines a Square D QO® load center with an automatic transfer switch in one enclosure, providing a generator-ready home. It eliminates the need for a second distribution panel and additional wiring for a standby residential generator, making less work for builders and electrical contractors while providing significant cost savings in installation time and labor costs.
Another key component of The New American Home is the Square D Clipsal lighting control system, which features a distributed control architecture, meaning functionality is built into each individual keypad or touch screen, resulting in high system reliability. This differs from a lighting control system with a central processor; if the processor fails, everything connected to it fails as well. The beautifully designed and architecturally inspired keypads and touch screens, available in a variety of finishes and colors, accent the décor of The New American Home 2008, said David Bruce, Eastern Region Sales Manager, Installation Systems and Control.
“Homeowners are demanding more from a lighting control system,” Bruce said. “Not only are they expecting reliability, they also want the ability to execute pre-set lighting scenes with the simple press of a button, along with the option of managing other home systems from a central location. In addition to that high level of functionality, they also want input devices that are both attractive and stylish. The Square D Clipsal lighting control system offers those benefits for The New American Home.”
Attractive lighting also will be provided by the various Juno Lighting Group products in The New American Home, including Juno and Aculux™ residential recessed lighting, Juno undercabinet and Indy™ Designer Series lighting fixtures. Juno and Aculux products feature the same tapered trim ring detail, reflector finishes and aperture sizes, creating design continuity throughout the home for optimal balance of visual impact, while Indy compact fluorescent downlights and wallwashers deliver a balance of top-level brightness control and light output that accent the visual comfort of The New American Home 2008.
Other Square D products featured in The New American Home include:
- Square D QO load center: Features a straight-in wiring design that minimizes cable bends for easier installations and convertible mains that allow for last-minute application changes by field-converting between main breaker and main lugs.
- Square D air conditioning disconnects: Available in a wide variety of configurations, including metallic and non-metallic enclosures and top- or side-hinged doors or padlock provisions, they can be mounted quickly and easily to stucco, brick, stone or lap-siding houses.
- Square D MultiLink structured wiring: Offers the convenience to control audio and video equipment from anywhere in a home, including multiple phone lines, printers, DVD players or shared data files. An optional surveillance package allows monitoring of any location in a home from any TV.
The 6,725-square-foot, Plantation-style New American Home was built on a waterfront lot in the Water’s Edge section of Lake Nona in southeastern Orlando. It features a two-story, H-shaped floor plan that provides extensive views of Lake Nona. International Builders Show attendees will be able to take a free guided tour of The New American Home during the show, while an educational seminar will be held from 10:30 a.m. to noon Feb. 12 in Room West 311 A-H of the Orange County Convention Center.
