Universal Lighting Technologies Announces Latest Ballastar® Innovation for T8 Lamps

From Universal Lighting Technologies comes the latest Ballastar® light-level switching ballast for T8 lamps. The B232PUS50-A ballast provides light level control by switching from full light to 50-percent power using standard wall switches or relays. This allows for simple compliance with ASHRAE 90.1 and California Title 24 switching requirements. Light-level switching maintains even illumination of the luminaire as opposed to standard ballast and lamp switching, which creates dark spots and uneven lighting patterns.

Ballastar light-level switching incorporates two “hot” power leads for control with two standard switches or relays, which simplifies installation. Switching one lead on provides 50-percent power while having both switches on provides 100-percent power. This control scheme is very intuitive for end-user operation; no instructions or training is necessary for use.

The B232PUS50-A also features high-efficiency operation and complies with the CEE requirements for high performance T8 lighting. There is no efficiency trade-off for switching control. Programmed starting is also incorporated into the design, which helps maintain long lamp life even when connected with occupancy sensors, as are frequently being installed.

This new ballast is designed to operate either one or two F32T8, F25T8, or F17T8 lamps. Full light ballast factor is .88. It complies with ANSI ballast requirements and includes end-of-lamp-life shutdown circuitry with auto re-strike for safe operation. Universal input voltage allows for this ballast to be connected to any voltage from 120 to 277 volts at 50 or 60 hertz. THD is less than 10 percent for all two-lamp applications
